Seed Sowing Guide

Seedling:

Prepare Baba seedling soil and seedling pots. Fill up the seedling pots with seedling soil, use finger gently make a small hole, put in 1 seeds and cover with a thin layer of soil.

During seedling stage, put under shaded area and make sure water thoroughly when needed. When there is sprout, then move it to area with direct sunlight.

♥♥ Extra Tip: Before put in seed into soil or before transplant, you could water the seedling mix or potting mix first. This is to ensure the potting mix get enough moist and prevent plants get dehydrated later.

Transplant:

When the seedling with 3-4 leaves, the seedling is ready to transplant.

  • Ready a suitable size pot, the mini depth of the planting container is 300mm. Such as Baba RD-392MJ-400, or 537 Volcano Box.
  • Fill up the planting pot with Baba Organic Vegimix, and make holes to prepare for transplant. Each holes require minimum 300mm distance, and build trellis to support.
  • Take out the seedling from seedling pots, and put into the hole. Press gently on surrounding soil, to make the seedling stay firm.
  • If you manage to germinate more than 1 seedling, you may put 2 seedling in one pot. After 14 days, keep the strong plant and remove the weak plant from the pot.

Fertilizing:

Put Mr. Ganick 532 Organic Leafy Fertilizer on 7th days after transplant. After that, repeat fertilizing on every week, for a month.

One month later, or when the plant start flowering, change the fertilizer to Mr. Ganick 426 Organic Melon Fertilizer. Repeat weekly too.

Dig a small hole 100-150mm from the plants, and put in fertilizer, then, cover the fertilizer with a thin layer of soil.

Water after done fertilizing.

Pest Control:

Ice Box Watermelon is easy to attract pests. May apply Mr Ganick Dr Neem oil in the evening after watering, in order to repel insect, twice a week.

Besides, fruits must be wrapped in paper to prevent fruit flies.

Thin leaves to make sure ventilation of plants, to avoid mealybug attack.

Artificial Pollination:

To increase the fruit bearing rate, artificial pollination can be carried out in the morning session after blooming.  Result is better for different plants pollinating.

Only keep main vine and a side vine with the axillary bud, remove other axillary bud. Keep only one fruit per vine.

Harvest Tips:

Ice Box Watermelon is ready to harvest after 70 days from transplanting date, or when the fruit turns plump and the surface color of melon becomes dull.
